The Area of Tourism and Trade, through its management of Retail trade and Events, seeks to stimulate the attractiveness of the city, by promoting events in the city, so that these also act as catalysts for commercial activity in Bilbao, maximising their impact on the generation of economic and social wealth.


Every year, Bilbao Ekintza develops and supports a large number of sporting, cultural and business events held in the city, and which generate economic activity in the city. Major events including the European Rugby Champions and Challenge Cup, MTV EMAs, Bilbao BBK Live or La Vuelta, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, Red Bull Cliff Diving and Basque Fest, are evidence that Bilbao has become a major reference in this area in recent years.

Retail trade

Bilbao Ekintza seeks to fully support local trade by helping retailers to adapt to new consumer models, encouraging increased competitiveness through digitalisation, innovation in management and improvement of the customer experience in small shops.

At the same time, it also aims to strengthen the attraction of Bilbao as a commercial capital, promoting retail trade in the city and its districts, offering support to stakeholders from the sector and showcasing the identity of unique retail establishments in the city, strengthening the link between the tourism-events promotion binomial and the promotion of local trade.
